Bench study on the effects of non-intentional leaks on ventilators performances during non-invasive ventilation
Non invasive ventilation can be used now at home for the treatment of respiratory failure. The increase of this ventilation mode has led to a lot of studies in order to understand how ventilators work and how they can adapt to patients respiration. Recently, a bench-study protocol has been developed to compare home ventilators performances, with only an intentional leak. But because they are used at home with non-invasive masks, some movement or an inadequate mask can cause leaks which modify the ventilators response. A comparison should then be done between the ventilators response with or without non intentional leaks to know how they deal with them and if they are still efficient in presence of leaks.
