STAGE M2 FIRST – Offre du 28/10/2024 – CFD modeling and simulation of outdoor microclimate in urban environment

  • Lieu : CORIA
  • Encadrants : T. Dbouk, J. Réveillon & A. Geffroy
  • Domaines d’expertise : CFD

This 6 months research internship is a part of a large project “HÉLIOS” entitled “De la caractérisation spatiale, sanitaire et sociale des pHÉnomènes d’îLots de chaleur urbaIns à l’exploration et l’évaluation de solutiOns d’adaptation fondéeS sur la nature” by 5 lcoal region communities (Le Havre, Métropole Rouen Normandie, Mantes-la-Jolie, Communauté d’Agglomération de Cergy-Pontoise, Argenteuil) in collaboration with CORIA Lab, other labs and the T.URN institute (https://www.univ-rouen.fr/actualites/decouvrez-linstitut-t-urn/). This internship is also in a global context of developing a multi-risk platform in Normandy region in France (e.g. for floods, fires and particles dispersion, air pollution dispersion, among others). One of the missions is to predict accurately the local urban heat island effects and local heat waves at the scale of a city (smart city).
The main objective is to develop, implement and validate a mesoscale model in CFD to take into account the urban trees effect on the outdoor microclimate by coupling a canopy energy balance (CEB) models. This will allow to investigate how local trees in the métropole region can affect outdoor microclimate under different wind speeds, air conditions, solar radiation and stomatal resistance. The major 3 work packages in this internship are the following:
1- Short literature review
2- Take into hands the CFD code OpenFOAM® and implementation of a new CEB model
3- Define and solve a new 3D CFD case n°1 to validate the newly implemented CEB model
4- Define and solve a new 3D CFD case n°2 of the métropole that will investigate/predict the effects of
different scenarios like local wind speed, air condition, solar radiation and stomatal resistance.

RÉSULTATS ATTENDUS POUR LA RÉDACTION DU RAPPORT DE STAGE
– Report summarizing the short literature review and the new CEB model implementation in OpenFOAM (60ème jour)
– Report on the 3D CFD case n°1 (100ème jour)
– Report on the 3D CFD case n°2 (180ème jour)
