Full name : Fire/Fast Incident Response Equipment for the DescRiption Of Noxious particle Emissions
Projec reference : INTERREG France Channel England
Period : from 01/11/2020 to 30/06/2023
Financers : European Union through its INTERREG France Channel England funding program
Total budget : €1,9 million including €1,3 million from the ERDF budget
Project coordinators : National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Rouen
Scientific summary :
The FIREDRONE project will increase the safety, speed and accuracy of firefighters’ response to industrial fires and wildfires by developing a compact airborne robotic system for live monitoring dangerous emissions in smoke, designing its operational procedures and providing demonstrations to fire emergency services. The project results will allow to analyse particles in fire smoke faster and cheaper than current equivalent solutions while providing more accurate data.
The system designers, a consortium of universities (INSA Rouen Normandie, University of Southampton, Université de Rouen Normandie) atmospheric authorities (AtmoNormandie) and drone operators and appliers (Consortiq) will work in close co-operation with end-users (the fire brigades and training centres) and experts in drone operations design and remote flight training of emergency services. Thus, the project partners will deliver a well adapted high-end solution.
