Retrieval of 3D Structures from Microscopic Images of Fractal Aggregates

Abstract: Aerosol particles, especially from combustion sources, are quite commonly found in the aggregated nature. The physicochemical properties of the particles are strongly dependent on the shape and size of the particles, and hence understanding the morphology/ shape becomes quite important. In this talk, we highlight the latest research work in the lab on the development of methods for the reconstruction of 3-Dimensional shape of aggregated structures from their microscopic image.

The effect of particle shape on the drag and various particle properties will also be discussed.

Dr. Thaseem Thajudeen will also discuss the major research activities in the Mechanical Engineering department and other major research centres at Indian Institute of Technology Goa.

Dr. Thaseem Thajudeen is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical Sciences at Indian institute of Technology Goa. He received his Ph.D. from University of Minnesota, U.S.A. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Friedrich Alexander University, Erlangen, Germany. During his postdoctoral stint, he received the fellowship from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

His research interests include characterization of aerosol particles, emission mitigation, sustainable energy etc. Dr. Thajudeen is visiting Rouen through the Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowship from French Institute in India, the scientific wing of the Embassy of France in India.
